KUDREMUKHA
Kudremukh literally means horse’s face in Kannada. Kudremukh is nestled in the heart of the western ghats in Chikkamagaluru district. This name is because of the distinctive shape of the peak and also called as Samseparvath historically
KODACHADRI
Kodachadri is located in Shimoga district and one of the most spoken-about trekking trails in Karnataka. Situated in the heart of the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary,offers an experience that will remain throughout your lifetime.
KEMMANGUNDI
Kemmanagundi is located at a height of 1434m above sea level and is famous for its beautifully laid-out ornamental gardens,and valleys views. The picturesque sunset view from the Raj Bhavan is every photographer’s delight.
KUDREMUKHA
Not for nothing is the Kudremukh Peak called the Himalayas of the South. Kudremukh also know as Kudremukha literally means ‘horse face’ because it is generally believed that this mountain range resembles the face of a horse. It has all the natural attributes that the Himalayas have–cascading waterfalls, dense forests, narrow streams and birds whistling in the woods. A trek here can easily win as one of the Western Ghats’ most naturally beautiful. As you explore this divine territory, you will see the vast variety in its landscape–not something other treks can come close to. On your way to the peak, you’ll come across several gushing streams, dense Shola forests, rolling green hills, tall bamboo shrubs and the majestic peak itself in all its glory. As you stop to take in the scenery here, you get blown off both by the magnificence of the peak and by the sharp and gusty winds. Situated in the heart of the Chikmagalur District, taking a Kudremukh trek is an adventure buff’s dream come true. It has an altitude 1,894 metres above sea level and ranks No. 3 in terms of height after the Mullayanagiri and Bababudangiri peaks. This mountain peak is sprawled across a small village in Chikmagalur district. Here’s where you can see miles and miles of coffee plantations, which enrich the air and make you feel invigorated. There are several sceneries here that give you a slice of everything wonderful. Check out the gushing streams, lush flora and waterfalls dot your way as you trek through this range.
KODACHADRI
The Kodachadri hill is a Natural Heritage Site, which is part of the Western Ghats and forms a lovely backdrop to the famous Kollur Mookambika Temple. Famed for its glorious sunrises and sunsets, this hill range is part of the Mookambika Temple Nature Reserve. The peak of Kodachadri (at an altitude of 1343 m above sea level) can be reached by a five-hour trek. Trekking in Kodachadri hill with friends or as a bunch of solo travellers can be an adventurous and spiritual experience. On the western side, the hill descends steeply for about 1220 m, meeting the forests of Udupi district. The trek up to the ancient temple from this point involves a climb of 4 km through thick jungle trails. Kollur is an ideal base from which to explore the hills.The name Kodachadri is derived from Sanskrit language word Kutaja, meaning Jasmine of the Hills. To reach Kodachadri one should arrive at Kollur town. Kollur is 130 kms from Mangaluru (nearest airport) and 430 kms from Bengaluru. Several private buses operate all through the day between Mangaluru and Kollur. Byndoor Mookambika Road train station is 20 kms from Kollur. from Kollur visitors can reach Kodachadri hiring 4×4 jeeps available for rent. The last few kms of the hill roads are notoriously dangerous and unsuitable for normal vehicles. Only well experienced local drivers in their 4×4 jeeps ferry tourists up and down the hill for a nominal fee. Experienced bike riders also manage to ride till top of the hill. It is also possible to reach nearby towns of Nitturu using their own vehicles or public transport and from Nitturu hike up the hill to reach Kodachadri. For safety reasons solo travel is not recommended, hiring a local guide and trekking in groups is advised.
KEMMANGUNDI
Despite being an unknown and undocumented trekking trail for years, Kemmangundi in Chickmaglur in Karnataka, s increasingly becoming a favourite trekking destination for nature lovers and wild life enthusiasts. The picturesque hill town lies in close proximity to the Baba Budan Giri Range and boasts of surreal beauty that is quite similar to the one observed at Western Ghats. The trek provides the participants with a unique opportunity to enjoy a tryst with nature, which is yet to be spoiled by human interference. What makes Kemmangundi even more popular is its amazingly beautiful and amazingly luxuriant climate that can be enjoyed all year round. The Kemmangundi trek takes the participants to the top of the single secluded peak Kemmangundi, which is also popular by the name of KR Hills. The peak is named so after Krishna Raja Wodeyar, who used the hill as his summer abode. Located at a distance of around 55 kms towards the north of Chickmaglur, the peak stands tall at an altitude of 1434m above sea level. The 2 days and 1night long trek requires the participants to cover a distance of 20 kms over trekking trail that is considered to be easy difficulty level. Before reaching the peak, the trekkers enjoy the mesmerizing sight of lofty hills, several streams and brooks, vast coffee estates and ornamental gardens and quite a few waterfalls. The trek proves to be a truly awe-inspiring experience for the participants who feel bewitched by the unique natural beauty of area and its pleasing climate.
